Imagine arriving in a new country to live and trying to navigate new systems,

a new culture, and people talking to you in multiple funny new accents!

This is UNDERSTOOD

A deadly serious and shamelessly farcical, defiantly hopeful but also necessarily cynical,

multilingual screen adaptation of the successful experimental stage production “In Sundry Languages.”

We follow six newcomers to Toronto, as they seek connection and belonging across their first

and second or new languages, in the pursuit of work, housing, and romance.

We witness their fear of being an ill fit in this new city, so that their missed connections

and their small successes in connecting are by turn delightful and heartbreaking.
